At The Castle School we value homework as we know the benefits it brings to our students. The Educational Endowment Foundation suggests students can make five months’ additional progress with regular purposeful homework and we achieve this by practicing what is taught.

Homework Expectations

  • Spend approximately one hour on each subject scheduled for that evening.

  • Option A, B and C refer to your option subjects. Your teachers will tell you which subject to complete on each evening.

  • Check Arbor regularly for homework tasks and deadlines.

  • Homework may include:

    • Practice and application of knowledge

    • Retrieval activities

    • Revision for assessments and examinations

    • Preparation for upcoming lessons

  • In addition to the timetable, you should complete further independent revision where appropriate, particularly in the run-up to assessments and examinations.

  • If you are unsure about a homework task, speak to your teacher as soon as possible.

Why Do We Have a Homework Timetable?

The homework timetable is designed to help you:

  • Develop consistent study routines.

  • Manage your workload effectively.

  • Avoid having too many homework tasks due at the same time.

  • Build strong revision habits.

  • Become a more independent learner.

  • Support parents and carers in helping you organise your study time.

Example Option Subject Allocation

If your option subjects are:

  • History

  • Art

  • Computer Science

Then your timetable might look like:

  • Monday: English + History

  • Tuesday: Maths + Art

  • Wednesday: Science + Computer Science

  • Thursday: English + Maths

  • Friday: Science + RE (every other week)

This ensures homework is spread evenly across the week and supports effective preparation for GCSE examinations.
